The Disappearance of Gus Lamont: A Family's Devastation and Ongoing Search for Answers
The parents of Gus Lamont, a four-year-old boy who went missing in South Australia's Mid North last September, have released a public statement expressing their profound grief and desperate search for answers. In a heartfelt appeal, Josh and Jess, Gus's parents, shared their unbearable pain and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.
"Our lives have been shattered, and every moment without him is unbearable," they said. "We know someone out there may have information. If someone knows what happened, we are pleading with that person — or anyone who may have seen or heard anything — to please come forward. Even the smallest detail could give us the answers we so desperately need."
The parents have also released a new photo and a video of their son, showcasing his playful nature while riding a balance bike on a gravel track. This heartwarming glimpse into Gus's life serves as a stark reminder of the joy he brought to those around him.
In their statement, the parents extended their gratitude to the police, emergency services, and all those involved in the search for Gus since his disappearance on September 27. They emphasized the profound impact of the tireless efforts of these dedicated individuals.
"We also want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone involved in the search for Gus," they said. "The tireless efforts of police, emergency services, ADF personnel, volunteers, and specialists have meant more to us than we can ever say. Your kindness has helped carry us through the darkest days of our lives. All we want is to bring Gus home and understand what happened to our beautiful boy."
The police have announced that Task Force Horizon, established in October to investigate Gus's disappearance, will continue its probe. The disappearance was declared a major crime on February 5, and Major Crime officer-in-charge Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke revealed the presence of a suspect, who was someone living at Oak Park Station, where Gus was also residing.
"A person who resides at Oak Park Station has withdrawn their support for the police and is no longer cooperating with us," Fielke stated. "The person who has withdrawn their cooperation is now considered a suspect in the disappearance of Gus. I do want to stress, however, that Gus's parents are not suspects in his disappearance."
Gus's grandparents, Josie and Shannon Murray, released a joint statement expressing their absolute devastation after the disappearance was declared a major crime. They affirmed their full cooperation with the investigation and their unwavering desire to find Gus and reunite him with his parents.
In a recent development, police have indicated their intention to return to Oak Park Station frequently in their ongoing search for Gus. This decision comes as a response to the arrest and charging of 75-year-old Josie Murray with unrelated firearms offenses following a search at Oak Park Station. A court date for these alleged offenses has been set for May.
