Frank Gore expressed his genuine happiness for Roger Craig's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, even though it happened ahead of his own eligibility. This year, both former running backs from the San Francisco 49ers were contenders for the prestigious honor as part of the Class of 2026, but only Craig was selected. In a recent conversation with the San Jose Mercury News, Gore shared his thoughts on the situation, emphasizing that he feels pleased for Craig, especially since Craig was nominated as a senior and may not have another opportunity to be considered again. "I’d rather him get all the shine than both of us go in at the same time," Gore remarked, showcasing his respectful attitude towards his fellow player.
Gore is still in the early stages of his Hall of Fame journey, marking his first year on the ballot, which means he has numerous opportunities ahead for potential selection. He candidly acknowledged his desire to be inducted, saying, "Of course I want to be in. I’m a competitor." Yet, he also reflected on the respect he has garnered throughout his career despite the setback, stating, "But what can I do? Everyone respects what I did. It’s all good. I had two ACLs [surgically repaired in college] and was a first-ballot finalist. That’s a blessing. It’s all good."
The careers of both Gore and Craig overlapped significantly with the 49ers franchise, albeit with a notable 15-year gap between their time on the field. Craig was an integral part of the 49ers from 1983 to 1990, while Gore made his mark from 2005 to 2014. Their journeys through professional football illuminate not only personal achievements but also the deep-rooted legacy of the 49ers organization.
